When it comes to shedding excess pounds, it’s tricky to know where to start. Sabja seeds or Thai holy basil seeds offer a natural alternative. There is a bewildering array of weight loss products, diets and gadgets on the market, all making wild promises to burn fat and slim the figure, and it can be tough determining which ones work and which ones don’t.
Of course, the best way to lose weight is to use only natural products rather than chemical substances that may harm your health. However, when they hear the word ‘natural’, most people presume that we’re talking about living off lettuce leaves and cabbage soup…yuck! Fortunately, that’s not the case. Allow us to introduce nature’s natural way of losing weight…Thai Basil Seeds!
Firstly, just to emphasise, Thai Holy Basil Seeds are different from Thai Holy Basil. However, delicious and highly nutritious, Thai holy basil does not offer any slimming benefits.
Thai Basil Seeds or Sabja seeds, on the other hand, most certainly will. These vegan-friendly seeds have a remarkable ability to take on water, which makes them incredibly filling, not to mention extremely low in fat. They’ve been used as a thickening agent in Thai cooking for years, but it’s only recently that savvy dieters have realised the weight-loss benefits that these humble seeds offer.
A major problem when dieting is feeling hungry. When we feel hungry, it’s inevitable that our hands start creeping towards the biscuit jar or sneaking a route into the fridge for some late-night snacking.
The Basil Seed diet is becoming increasingly popular on both sides of the Atlantic, thanks to its remarkable satiety benefits. In more simple terms, these tiny seeds seriously fill you up! Although they’re not particularly nutritionally beneficial (and thus should be eaten as part of a healthy diet), they provide a fantastic, natural way to make you feel fuller for longer. Believe it or not, these tiny seeds can absorb thirty times their weight in water. They swell in the stomach, causing you to feel pleasantly full rather than ravenously hungry.
They’re also high in fibre, which is great for your digestion.
They’re a very flexible seed, and can be added to plenty of different foods. In South East Asia, they are often used in a pudding mixed with tapioca; though we wouldn’t recommend eating desserts if you’re trying to lose weight fast!
They’re easy to incorporate into a delicious fruit smoothie, soup or casserole.
Sabja Seeds are often confused with Chia Seeds, as they can both absorb a lot of water. Both are excellent for helping dieters lose weight. However, Chia Seeds pack far more of a nutritional punch (they are filled with Omega 3 and 6 oils and other essential fatty acids and antioxidants).
Basil Seeds excel because of their high fibre content. Fibre is vital for a healthy digestive system, and basil seeds can help keep you ‘regular,’ as well as give your body the ability to absorb nutrients fully.
Many dieters choose to incorporate both Chia and Basil Seeds into their daily diets to provide nutrition and keep them feeling full without consuming unnecessary calories.
Are There Any Side Effects?
Thai Holy Basil Seeds have been used in Southeast Asia for centuries to help obese people shed pounds. Europeans and Americans have only started incorporating them into their diets in the last decade or so.
As a result, not much is yet known about their side effects. However, studies have been carried out to assess the safety of basil seeds when added to food, and they have been deemed safe.
There have been no reports of side effects from using Basil Seeds. However, Basil Seeds do contain estragole, a natural organic compound suspected to be carcinogenic and genotoxic. Before you start panicking, studies have shown that, provided the seeds are consumed sensibly, the levels of estragole consumed are minimal and thus will not cause any adverse effects on the body.
Regardless of this, we always recommend that you speak to a doctor if you have any concerns about eating them. They are not recommended for under-18s or pregnant/nursing women, and we suggest that they be used in moderation as part of a healthy diet.
The official line is: When eaten sensibly alongside nutritious food, Basil Seeds can help control hunger pangs, enabling dieters to resist the temptation of snacking. They are nature’s way of filling you up and allowing you to get rid of those stubborn love handles fast!

This is the best organic cacao powder I have ever had , and is definitely the purest.
I have purine accumulation which causes pain in muscles and joints similar to athritis and it can fool doctors into thinking it is athritis.
I use sour cherry juice and hibiscus tea and a low purine diet and I have alleviated my symptoms greatly.
I had a fortnight without my hibiscus tea and the symptoms came back.
I drink the tea without addititives and it is an acquired taste but now I quite enjoy it knowing how it improves my health and well being,
Excellent product. I am happy with the tea. It tastes so good and it's real organic.
The service is brilliant and extremely easy. Received the order quickly and well packaged. The quality of the Acerola is great and far better than others I have tried. I definitely will be ordering again
I always buy this psyllium husk as it gives a lovely colour, flavour and softness to my gluten free bread. Many of the other brands make my bread purple!
Im addicted to the this turmeric! I have terrible inflammation in my joints and this is the only one thing that actually helps and believe me I’ve tried all pain killers and anti inflammatory tablets.
Incredible natural multivitamin!
So much better than powder so much easier *****
Love Moringa! natures all round multi mineral and vitamin. Great service, products and ethics from TNHM
Delighted to find yerba mate tea in a bag form, organic as well. Was introduced to yerba mate tea by an Argentinian friend, who brews it in her proper "pot with a spout"& used as a sharing device with friends. It's an acquired taste, but I love it & it gives a boost instead of coffee. Very happy with service & purchase.
Strong & fresh-tasting peppemint tea-temples,one of the nicest I've had.
I bought these to take on holiday as I usually use the powder. Service was excellent and product looks good, I am sure it will be really good and so convenient for when I am away
Bought some psyllium husk and it's been great.
I'll be buying this again.
Best ginger tea bags around. No nasties just pure dried ginger. Love them. They help my vestibular migraines so much. I won’t buy them anywhere else. Thanks guys ❤️
